My kids absolutely love lemonade. Come to think of it – so do I!
Actually let me just clarify that. I love homemade, chemical free, real food lemonade.Not the packaged poison variety Schweppes markets, which consists of carbonated water, a heap of sugar, lemon juice from concentrate food acid, fake flavours and preservatives (1).
Or worse, the diet variety. Get a load of these ingredients:
Carbonated Water, Lemon Juice from Concentrate (2%), Citric Acid, Fla-vourings, Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrate), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Sodium Saccharin), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Antioxidant (Absorbic Acid). Contains a Source of Phe-nylalanine.” (2)
I see a lot of fake sugar there, which is even worse for you than actual sugar. In fact, this 2009 study shows those consuming diet soft drinks are 67% more likely of developing Type 2 diabetes. Seriously!
And that’s not to mention the other health risks associated with consuming fake food.Aspartame alone accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the Food & Drug Administration.Many of these reactions are very serious, including seizures and death (3).
Please please stay away from fake sugars. There are so many natural ways satisfying a sugar craving, I promise you there is no need to reach for this stuff. Just have a browse through some of my Raw Desserts and you’ll see what I’m talking about ;)
